§1What CROA is
The Credit Repair Organizations Act (CROA), 15 U.S.C. § 1679 et seq., is a federal statute regulating businesses that, for profit, perform credit-repair services or provide advice or assistance regarding consumer credit. CROA imposes strict requirements on covered organizations: written contracts with mandatory disclosures, a three-day right of cancellation, no advance payment before services are rendered, and a private right of action for violations.
§2Why Prestige is not a credit repair organization
Under CROA's definition (15 U.S.C. § 1679a(3)), a "credit repair organization" is a person who uses any instrumentality of interstate commerce or the mail to sell, provide, or perform any service represented as improving a consumer's credit record, history, or rating in return for the payment of money or other valuable consideration.
Prestige does not fit that definition for the following reasons:
- We do not act as your agent. Prestige does not contact credit bureaus, furnishers, or creditors on your behalf. Every dispute letter, validation demand, and document the Platform produces is generated for you to send under your own name and signature.
- We do not provide credit-repair services as a service. The Platform is a SaaS membership offering automated tooling and educational content. Members pay for access to software and curriculum, not for a contractual promise of credit improvement.
- We make no specific outcome representations. Marketing copy and Engine descriptions consistently disclaim specific score outcomes (see Earnings Disclaimer).
Prestige nonetheless adopts a number of CROA-aligned practices voluntarily: no high-pressure sales tactics, no false outcome claims, transparent pricing, and a clearly disclosed cancellation procedure (see Refund Policy).
§3Your rights under CROA (informational)
Although Prestige is not covered, the Federal Trade Commission requires us to tell you about your CROA rights so you can recognize them if you ever engage a covered organization. CROA gives consumers the right to:
- Receive a written contract that clearly describes the services to be performed, the total cost, and the time required;
- Cancel any credit-repair contract within three business days, without penalty;
- Sue any credit-repair organization that violates CROA, in federal court, for actual damages or the amount paid (whichever is greater), plus attorney's fees;
- Be free from upfront fees — covered organizations cannot charge until services are fully performed.
§4Disputing items directly with the bureaus
You have the right under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA, 15 U.S.C. § 1681) to dispute inaccurate or unverifiable information on your credit reports directly with each bureau, free of charge.
- Experian — experian.com/disputes
- Equifax — equifax.com/personal/credit-report-services/credit-dispute
- TransUnion — dispute.transunion.com
Bureaus must investigate disputed items within 30 days and remove anything they cannot verify. Prestige's Credit Repair Engine helps you generate the dispute letter; you submit it.
§5Free annual credit reports
Federal law entitles you to a free credit report from each of the three nationwide bureaus every 12 months at annualcreditreport.com — the only federally authorized source.
Since 2023, the bureaus also provide free weekly reports through that same site. You do not need to pay for monitoring services to access your reports.
§6CFPB & FTC resources
- Consumer Financial Protection Bureau — consumerfinance.gov. File complaints, read consumer guides, learn your rights.
- Federal Trade Commission — consumer.ftc.gov/articles/credit-repair-how-help-yourself. Official guide to credit repair fraud and your protections.
